Makerere University is investigating a case where 600 students were assigned marks in a fraudulent and later awarded degrees at the oldest University in the region. Professor Mondo Kagonyera, the Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University said they were looking into the issue and promised swift action.
“If we establish beyond any doubt that they were falsely awarded, they shall be withdrawn,” said Prof Kagonyera.
The VC added staff involved in the malpractice will have to face the law even as the police moved to detain several key suspects in the scam.
On Friday, Makerere University hosted President Mwai Kibaki who unveiled a new Sh3.6 billion library in his honour.
