So you gave out your number to that potential love interest, you’ve been texting for a while and have been dating for a pretty minute. But you feel unsure. How do you know if this guy is actually into you? You can see there just might be something between you but don’t quite know where he stands because neither of you have said those three magic words.
Texting is our main mode of communication these days and can be an awesome way to get to know a potential partner so it makes sense that’s where you would look when trying to figure out how a guy feels about you.
In the age of instant messaging, there are a few subtle blink-and-you’ll-miss- it hints that let you know if he’s just being friendly or if he wants to pursue something more with you. Let’s dig in and take a closer look at the signs a guy likes you through texting.
1. He shows concern
A guy who likes you will show you genuine care and concern. Does this person text to make sure you’re home safely? Do they quickly reply, when you’re going through a tough time? For instance, when you’re having a hard day and don’t have time to text back. He wants to know if you’re doing alright, so he won’t hesitate to light up your phone with texts. Another example is when you tell him that you’re not feeling well; he’ll text you throughout the day to check in on you. He’ll ask you if you’ve gone to visit the doctor, if you’re taking your meds as prescribed and he just might show up at your doorstep with soup. Only a guy who truly cares about you will react this way.
2. He will want to do more than text
One of the signs a guy likes you that you can identify over text, is when he alludes he prefers to be with you instead of simply communicating over text. For whatever reason, you’re bound to text each other. He makes it clear that he would much rather see you in person than settle for texting. He might text something like, “I have to work, otherwise we could totally hang out!” or “I wish you were here”. It’s really obvious that he likes you and doesn’t have much choice right now and texting will have to do.
3. He opens up
Another way to spot mutual interest is if your text exchange moves past the generic “hope your day was good” text and into more relationship territory. These changes can point to a deeper level of closeness and trust. Does he make sure to let you in on his plans for the day? He gets a promotion at work? You’re the first person he wants to tell. Or maybe he’s had a bad day at work? He may not bring it up straight away, but you’re the comfort he wants. Someone who doesn’t like you wouldn’t bother with these things. He really wants you to be part of his life. By the same token, he wants to know how you’re spending your time when you’re apart. Not only do these texts show this person is also invested in your life, the banter-y language shows that he wants the two of you to be a thing. He’s building that bond.
4. He will dish out the compliments
When a guy likes you, it becomes obvious when he starts mentioning little things he notices and likes about you. When a guy likes you, he’ll like a lot of things about you and won’t be able to stop himself from sharing those things. Does he mention that he likes your perfume scent? Does he text you to mention you looked pretty the last time you guys met or he loves your hairstyle in your latest Instagram photo? If they notice, it means they are paying attention to you and they probably like you.
Understanding whether a guy likes you on text can be hard but as long as you can nod along to many of the above points and if it seems like you’re hitting it off, it very well may be true- those butterflies in your tummy will seldom be wrong. Look for those little signs. If you are having doubt about how he’s feeling about you, just ask him- have a chat to define the relationship.
