Lessons from Demi Lovato’s self-love song ‘I Love Me’

Singer Demi Lovato recently released her new single ‘I Love Me’ after a long hiatus.

The song ‘I Love Me’ was released on Friday (06.03.20) in anticipation of the international women’s day and in honour of her turning over a new leaf in her life.

‘I Love Me’ is all about self-love, self-worth and acknowledging that you are enough. This single provides fans with the first in-depth look into the turmoil that the former Disney teen star has been through since her breakthrough in 2008.

The raw and honest video features three versions of Lovato all pulling her in different directions until she finally realizes that it’s loving herself that will bring her true happiness.

“I was on dating apps for a while but as I’ve spent some time with myself over the past couple months, I realized that I am the type of person that will find any way to regulate when I’m sad or lonely or whatever,” Lovato said recently on Ellen DeGeneres show.

“I have to fight those battles on my own and I can’t let somebody come in and fix those issues for me. So right now, I’m single and spending my Saturday nights by myself, “she added.

Don’t compare yourself to anyone

Other people might seem to have it all together, they might look prettier and like they have it all but never compare yourself to others as you are on ypur own journey. Be you because everyone else is taken. Comparisons are self-destructive.

“Oh, why do I compare myself to everyone? And I always got my finger on the self destruct,” sings Lovato.

Love yourself

Self-love and self-confidence are key. You should be your number one priority. Do not be all bout other people and forget yourself, you need some loving too. Take care of yourself mentally, physically and emotionally.

“Cause I’m a black belt when I’m beating up on myself, But I’m an expert at giving love to somebody else….. I wonder when I love me is enough (Yeah, yeah, yeah), I wonder when I love me is enough (Yeah, yeah, yeah)Why am I always looking for a ride or die? ‘Cause mine’s the only heart I’m gonna have for life, after all the times I went and fucked it up,” sings the 27-year-old.

Fuck other people’s beauty standards

No one should tell you how you should look, eat or wear. Be comfortable in your own skin because you are unique and beautiful as you are. Fuck other people’s beauty standards that try to put you in a box and making you feel less than you are. Whether chubby, skinny, black, white, tall or short you should know you are enough.

Flipping through all of these magazines, Telling me who I’m supposed to be, Way too good at camouflage, Can’t see what I am, I just see what I’m not, I’m guilty ’bout everything that I eat (Every single thing), Feeling myself is a felony, Jedi level sabotage
Voices in my head make up my entourage,” sings Demi.

Affirmations are key

Nothing beats affirmations when it comes to self-love. You need to remind yourself that you are a wonderful being and if you faced with adversities, you will surely overcome because you know your worth.

Speaking affirmations to yourself can boost your mood, lift your spirits and make your day that much better.

“I’m my own worst critic, Talk a whole lot of shit, But I’m a ten out of ten, Even when I forget,” sings Lovato.
