It seems Comp Science and IT students are starting their practice way before graduation, going by a report by Cyberoam. Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) students are among the top of the hacking order, not just in Kenya but in Africa.
According to Cyberoam’s report released during the Education Cyber Security Symposium, Kenyan students are fourth in Africa after Egypt, Morrocco and South Africa, in terms of hacking school systems to manipulate grades and fees balance.
Cyberoam manager Philip Obondy said hacking has become a booming business in schools, especially towards the end of semester and during the graduation period.
“Cyber security is one of the areas that needs to be looked into with proper solutions, including identifying the minimum level of security for any learning institution,” Obondy told the Star newspaper.
