Kotex launches ‘She Can’ Awards Uni Edition with Sharon Mundia and Maxine Wabosha as mentors

Kotex has kicked off its ‘#PeriodOrNotSheCan’ launch campaign into the universities as mentorship support to lady students in institutions of higher learning.

The #SheCanAwardsUniEdition is a campaign that seeks to engage directly with young women by inspiring them towards barriers that stand in the way of their success.

The campaign which rolled out at Strathmore University and Mount Kenya University (MKU) sought to engage directly with young women by inspiring them towards breaking barriers that stand in the way of their success.  The campaign also honored university students who share compelling ‘She Can’ personal stories on the Kotex social media pages.

The MKU event saw four young women receive the “She Can” award, namely Francisca Kanana, Dorothy Kerubo, Lydiah Elijah and Kathure Moureen who were awarded for sharing stories of courage and resilience despite extremely difficult circumstances. Strathmore University winners were Harriet Asava, Lucy Njoroge, Lindsay, Patsy Mugambi, Vicky Aridi and Catherine Mumo.

#SheCanAwardsUniEdition has also enlisted “Big Sisters” to volunteer their time to motivate young women by sharing inspiring stories that teach them to value their journey to greatness. TV host and social media influencer Sharon Mundia (This is Ess) and Maxine Wabosha were at the Strathmore event to mentor and share inspirational tips with university students on how to successfully fulfil their dreams while TV personality Serah Teshna mentored students at Mount Kenya University.

Outgoing Vice President of Strathmore Student Council, Catherine Mumo was grateful for the opportunity for the female population at Strathmore to meet with mentors who can help them remove the mental barriers to their success journey.  “It created a sister-hood bond for the lady students, a movement of ladies who believe that that can achieve their dreams, says Blessings Mutheu, the Outgoing Academic Executive of Strathmore Student Council. Vice President of MKU Student Body, Casty Micheni add:ed “This is a service to humanity and you can’t imagine how many girls lack pads during their periods.”

Kotex recently launched its new-look packaging that incorporates the SHE symbol into their logo in honor of women everywhere. Speaking at the official launch event in March 2019, Christopher Waithaka Senior Brand Manager, Feminine Care Category – West, East & Central Africa said, “We incorporated the “She” symbol into the Kotex logo as a reminder that women guide everything we do and as a commitment to honor her for the next 100 years.”

“The #PeriodOrNotSheCan’ campaign allows Kotex to drive conversation around period stigma with the intention of underscoring our belief, that a period should never get in the way of any woman’s progress,” he added.
