Kenyatta University Alumni Secures Mandela Washington Fellowship

An incubate at Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre, Joseph Ngugi Nyambura, has been selected to participate in the 2017 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young Africa Leaders. Joseph will arrive in the United States on 16 June 2017 and is expected to spend six weeks taking part in an academic and Leadership Institute at the Drake University in Des Moines State of Iowa. He will hone his leadership skills and network with other young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa and the United States.

 

Joseph Ngugi Nyambura Founder Cleanster Co.Ltd and Incubate Chandaria BIIC After his academic residency, Joseph is expected to travel to Washington DC to participate in a three-day Mandela Washington Fellowship Summit from July 31 to 2 August 2017.During the summit, he will have the opportunity to interact with U.S leaders in the fields of business, government and the non-profit sector. Upon completion of the US- based program, his fellowship continues in Africa, where he will have access to ongoing professional development, networking and a variety of possible funding sources.

 

 

The innovator is also expected to participate in professional development experience in one of the companies in the United States. Joseph is the founder of Cleanstar Company Limited, a start-up incubated at the Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubated Centre. Cleanster manufactures soap from recycled waste cooking oil. He has a production site in Kahawa West with five employees.

 

Joseph who is a Kenyatta University alumnus is the second incubate to be selected for the Mandela Washington Fellowship after Levit Nudi who last year was selected for the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship. Levit a student at Kenyatta University, is working on a device – Toto Sense which is a breathing monitor for assisting parents to monitor the vital signs in children to help detect potential signs of lung complications .This will encourage early diagnosis and treatment of diseases as pneumonia. Both incubates are also YALI RLC East Africa Alumnus.
