Kenyans, Nigerians and South Africans top the list of Africa’s biggest social media users.
A new survey carried out by Global Web Index on the latest social media trends, Nigerians are Africa’s biggest social media users, followed by South Africans and Kenyans respectively. Egypt and Morocco follow closely at positions 5 and 6 respectively.
The report further indicates that WhatsApp is Africa’s most popular social media platform, while Facebook remains the most used network the world over, in spite of many users saying they no longer use it. The flagship report shows that the average Nigerian spends 3 hours and 42 minutes on the socials. Kenya, Egypt and Morocco are as follows:
Kenya – 3 hours, 8 minutes
Egypt – 2 hours, 57 minutes
Morocco – 2 hours, 31 minutes
“For now, social platforms are maintaining the hold they have on users’ time, but an attention recession could see action-based metrics gain even more relevance, and others like views to become less dependable; these could simply be a reflection of consumers spending less time scrolling, and not the true effectiveness of a brand’s campaign or social strategy,” the report concludes.
