Kenyan Movie ‘Subira’ Starring Brenda Wairimu Is Now Showing On Netflix

Critically acclaimed Kenyan movie ‘Subira’ is now showing on top streaming platform Netflix.

The movie which was released in November 2018, was added on the platform on the 16th of September 2022.

‘Subira’ tells the story of a young Muslim woman who navigates a death in her family, an arranged marriage and a move to the big city and fights continuously for her right to swim.

‘Subira’ is raking up viewership and is now among the top five movies to watch this week. Lead actress Brenda Wairimu took to social media to celebrate the movie’s milestones on the international viewing platform.

As reported by The Sauce, the drama film directed by Ravneet Sippy Chadha was Kenya’s 2020 Oscar contender, but it was not nominated. ‘Subira’ also scooped up five awards at the 2018 Kalasha Awards.

‘Subira’ is the latest Kenyan production that is showing on Netflix, in October 2020, ‘Disconnect’ became the third Kenyan movie to make it to the international streaming platform after ‘Poacher’ and ‘Sincerely Daisy’.
