Kenyan deejays offer support to help DJ Wiwa realize her dream.
When the plight of 25-year-old Winnie Wanjiku alias Dj Wiwa was highlighted in the media a few months ago, a group of Kenyan DJs on a Whatsapp group took it upon themselves to help her out.
Thus after 60 disc jockeys raised Kshs 135,000, 6 deejays; Veteran Dj Stylez, Capital FM Dj Stretch, Crème Dela Crème, Dj HypnotiQ, Dj Xclusive and Kriss Darlin yesterday 1st November 2018 surprised the upcoming DJ at the Talanta institute with a brand new deck worth Kshs 170,000. Wiwa who is learning to be a DJ at the Nairobi based institute received the equipment complete with a laptop in the presence of her mother Rosemary, sister and trainer Alex Gecaga.

Determined and passionate about her craft, Wiwa hails from Mwea in Kirinyaga county and is special because plays the decks using her feet due to the fact that she suffers from a condition called cerebral palsy that has affected her motor functions her hands. Cerebral palsy is a condition marked by impaired muscle coordination (spastic paralysis) and/or other disabilities, typically caused by damage to the brain before or at birth.
Speaking to The Sauce, Capital FM’s DJ Stretch said that although Wiwa is still in school and is physically challenged, he believes that she is really talented and has a great future ahead of her. He also added that the dj group is working towards buying her a new Mac book computer to help her practice the craft better since hers is a bit outdated.
