Kenyan Artistes Snag Top AFRIMA Nods

The annual All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) are set to make a comeback this year, after last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic.

This year’s  ceremony sees several Kenyan musical meteors shine in 9 of the 30 categories.

According  to AFRIMA, a total of 8,880 songs were submitted for adjudication.

The Kenyan nominees include:

Afro-pop band Sauti Sol and Gengetone Group Ethic will be going head to head in the Best African Group/Duo category.

Rapper Khaligraph Jones is up for the Best African Rapper or Lyricist for his Wavy collaboration with Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie.

Video director Roadman is up for the Best African video category for Bensoul (featuring Nviiri, Sauti Sol and Mejja’s hit, Nairobi)

Sol Generation’s Bensoul on the Nairobi and teen star Nikita Kering with Ex are up for the Songwriters of the Year award.

Rising star Xeniah Manasseh with her 2020 jam Lowkey, has been nominated in the Most Promising African Artiste category.

The Sol Family Bensoul with Nairobi, Nviiri the Storyteller with Niko Sawa and Sauti Sol with Rhumba Japani will be battling it out for Best Male East Africa spot.

Our Fave singers Karun with I Know, Xenia Manasseh with Low Key and Nikita Kering with Ex are in it for the Best Female East Africa award.

Kenyan Afro-fusion group Hornsphere will contest for Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Jazz for their song Dance.

Multi-talented singer Tetu Shani and Rock band RASH have been nominated for the Best African Rock award.

Teen singer Shanah will be up for Best Artiste, Group or Duo in African Traditional for her track, God Will Make a Way.

Soulful crooner Noel Nderitu is up for the Best Male in African Inspirational Music category for Enough while Ali Mukhwana will battle him in the same category with Maombi Yangu.

Internet Sensation Elsa Majimbo also landed a nomination for Personality of the Year.

Nigerians Wizkid and Omah Lay top the nominations list with 6 and 4 nods respectively.

The AFRIMA Awards will broadcast live from Lagos, Nigeria on 84 television stations  across 109 countries on November 19th 2021.
