Kalasha Film Awards: Kenya’s Oscars

The Kenya Film corporation’s film and television awards ceremony; the Kalasha Awards was held at the swanky Crowne Plaza in Upper Hill. Being the oldest Kenyan film awards show, it has always been thought of as Kenya’s version of the Oscar’s Awards Ceremony held in the USA, and from the outset, it did not fail to live up to expectations.

Gold painted statuesque models in full couture ornamented the red carpet, creating an other-worldly atmosphere for all the guests present at the event. Capital FM’s Maqbul Mohammed emceed the event that went on later into the night due to the two-hour late start.

Kati Kati carried the day falling short of grabbing all their nominations in the acting categories where Elsaphan and Nyokabi lost to Frank Kimani and Anita Nthenya respectively. The TV side of things though was run entirely by Sue and Jonnie as they swept past competition managing to win all the categories they were nominated for. The creative duo of Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja also had a fantastic outing managing to grab nods for both their shows Sue and Jonnie and Hullabaloo Estate.
