Rugby players Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama have each been sentenced to 15 years in jail after a guilty verdict in gang-rape case.
The two were sentenced on Friday (16.08.19) when they were presented before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku.
The sentencing of Olaba and Wanyama was last Friday postponed after the two presented their case for noncustodial sentence.
They were found guilty of gang rape on August 8th 2017 having been charged with the offence in April last year after they reportedly raped a female musician by the name Wendy Kemunto at one of one of their residences at Seefar Apartments in Nairobi’s Highrise.
Magistrate Mutuku was urged to consider the two were only aged 23 and 22 years while the complainant is 24.
“As young as they have come from humble backgrounds and it is through their career that they have been able to support their kin,” their lawyer argued adding: “they had not planned to meet the victim on a material day.”
The Singer Wendy who was one of the Coke Studio Africa background vocalists in 2019, set the interwebs on fire last year when she came out on her social media platforms to accuse the two popular rugby stars of taking advantage of her after a night of partying and getting pregnant as a result.
