Democratic party candidate Joe Biden will be the 46th President of the United States of America, with Kamala Harris as Vice President.
CNN, NBC News, and CBS News called the race in Biden’s favor just before 11.30 am yesterday 7.11.2020). The highly anticipated election results came in; making it a historic vote electing the first female Vice President in American history; while adding Donald J. Trump to the short list of Presidents to serve only one term with the highest voter turn out for the American population.
Trump had no immediate reaction to the announcement, but as Biden’s lead grew
during vote counts since Tuesday’s (3.11.2020) election, the Republican Presidential candidate lashed out with unsubstantiated claims of fraud and ballot interference, falsely.
Earlier Saturday, as he headed to his golf course in Virginia, he repeated this,
tweeting: “I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!” However, since Friday (6.11.2020) Trump’s panic tweets have seen him muted on Twitter, with the social media platform concerned that his inflammatory statements might ignite violence amongst his supporters.
Biden has gone on to acknowledge the win, proud of the achievement and a chance to make great change as President, pointing out that it was ‘time to heal America’.
In his acceptance speech President Elect said, “I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and Vice President-elect Harris,” Biden said in a statement. “In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America.”
Americans flooded the streets in cities like New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C to celebrate the win, with large crowds gathering in Times Square and near the White House to
loudly mark Mr. Trump’s defeat.
