6. Mining Jobs: Try Coal
The government has just created 31 more coal exploration blocks in Kitui, Kwale, Taita, Taveta and Kilifi counties. One of the companies involved in this explorations is China’s Fenxi Mining Group. They will be beginning production of coal soon in Kitui. Time to take out and dust that mining degree.
7. Real Estate Matters
Last week we highlighted the arrival of Dubai firm Engineering Consortium Consulting Engineers (ECCE). This week, Laser & Electronics Middle East is coming to Kenya to fill the high demand for lighting driven by real estate expansion in recent years. It is likely that we will see more Dubai firms coming into Kenya. However, real estate, especially around housing, may be headed for a slowdown. The growth of prices of luxury housing in Kenya slowed down in 2014, indicating a slowdown in demand and a likely contraction of business. Also, the 2012/13 Kenya National Housing Survey just released revealed that Nairobi residents are spending 40 percent of their income on housing, a high and unsustainable amount. Our advice: consider jobs in commercial real estate.
8. Energy Audit Firms
You seen the T.V. advertisements, usually in 5-minute intervals as you watch local programming. This business-to-business industry has grown rapidly in the last 10 years and is involved in helping large energy consumers e.g. factories cut down on their consumption and gain savings through the use of energy saving equipment. A single job by Pisu Energy Services for example, cost a client close to Sh1.5 million. SGS Kenya is another player in this industry that you should consider if looking for new applications for your Engineering degree, for example.

10. Basco Paints has 700 openings across East Africa
The Dura Coat maker is expanding into Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. They are about to kick off construction of their new factories in these countries and are moving to set up distribution depot in Burundi and South Sudan. Main rivals Sadolin Paints and Crown Paints have also moved into Rwanda. Advice: do some research into work permit requirements for these countries.
