Winners of Kenya’s Microsoft Imagine Cup team PI Craft will represent Kenya in the global finals at St. Petersburg, Russsia. Team PI Craft is among 87 other university teams from all over the world including a team from South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria and Egypt.

Team PI Craft, who are students at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will be pitching their Protégé solution that matches the needs of children homes with charitable organizations and individuals so that well-wishers can give to the most deserving cases and according to what the home needs.

Protégé uses Microsoft’s Azure Cloud Service to interconnect homes for street children with contributors, enabling secure donations of any type to these facilities such as clothes, food, money or even one’s own time by volunteering to do community service in a home.

“Street Children have been associated with all manners of evil from theft to being a nuisance through constant begging yet we forget that underneath all that worn out clothes is a child in need of a family. We hope to make a difference in the lives of these children and give them a chance of having a normal childhood,” says Collin Omwenga.
