JKUAT Juja hosts children’s chess camp during April Holidays break

JKUAT is determined to enrich society, even reaching out to young children.

It is the April Holidays but that does not mean that children should stop learning or that is what JKUAT hopes to achieve. The institution of higher learning is hosting a children’s chess camp in the Juja Campus. Known to help with keeping the mind agile and strong, those who will attend the training camp will benefit greatly from the benefits of playing chess.

According to a invitation from the Sports Department from the prestigious university, the chess camp for kids and teenagers hopes to accommodate beginners to more experienced players in the board game turned sport. Kicking off on the 8th of April, the training is set to end on 12th April 2019.

According to the Huffington Post, For centuries people have kept alert and mentally fit through the game of Chess, the game that stimulates our neurological activity like no other. Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), mathematician, physicist, philosopher, inventor, called chess “the school of the mind.” Against the sloth that seems to be creeping up on us with the new gadgets that make us mentally idle and indolent, we can train our minds with chess, the trick used by our forefathers for centuries. Chess teaches us methodical thinking.

Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a chessboard, a checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an 8×8 grid. The game is played by millions of people worldwide, with many young minds taking it on as a sport.
