Olympic swimmer Jason Dunford is now a singer.
The Kenyan Olympian known for his talents in the pool has just released his debut track dubbed “Mbaya.” Dipping his toes into the music industry for the first time, the athlete once known as “The Kenyan Torpedo” or “The Human Spring,” now adds a new facet to his persona. Dunford now goes under the name “Samaki Mkuu” as far as music is concerned.
The mid-December release sees the Standford University graduate sing about his love woes with Mexican priest turned musician Romantico also known as Edgar Manuel Vargas Gallegos. A fusion of genres including genge and reggaeton which has birthed a new unique sound “Gengetone” associated with Romantico. Singing in Swahili and Spanish, the dynamic duo offers up some great entertainment on this track. Based on images shared on Instagram, the duo who met at the Alpha fit Gym in September 2018, have been cooking up the track for months before its release.
Jason Dunford has been relatively busy since taking a backseat from representing Kenya in 2012. He attended graduate school at Standford Graduate Business School, hosted his own show J-Talk Live. Most recently Dunford joined BBC Africa hosting a weekly business show.
