Issa Rae debuts trailer to new comedy sketch show ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’

The epitome of Black Girl Magic Issa Rae has something new for her fans.

The American talent known for her series of work including ‘Insecure’, ‘Awkward Black Girl’ and more recently ‘Little’ has just announced that she has a new show set to hit the small screens on August 2nd, 2019. The show dubbed ‘ A Black Lady Sketch Show’ features a large cast of African American actresses and comedians including former Buzzfeed producer Quinta Brunson, acclaimed actress Gabrielle Dennis, writer, and producer Ashley Nicole Black as well as talented producer Robin Thede. Special cameos include award-winning Angela Bassett, ‘Orange Is The New Black’ actress Lavern Cox, ‘Sister Sister’ lead Tia Mowry, Naomi King, Lena Waithe from ‘Master of None’, singer Pattie Labelle and even ‘Insecure’ ‘s Yvonne Orji, BET Award Winner Marsai Martin, ‘Destiny’s Child’ group member Kelly Rowland and many more.

The sketch comedy show co-produced by Robin Thede and Issa Rae is centered around the lives of 4 women and features a myriad of guest cameos on various sketches throughout the show. Seriously funny and relevant, the show offers social commentary on the world’s latest affairs and uses the woman’s perspective to mock the world as we know it.

The cast and crew attended Essence Fest this past weekend to promote the new show. The event which took place at Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana saw African Americans showbiz elite as well as some of Africa’s best acts to celebrate culture at the 2-day event.

With the first screening going public on Sunday evening (7.07.2019), the cast and crew are more than excited for the show to drop in a few weeks. Check it out on HBO, August 2nd 2019.
