InterContinental Nairobi has today signed an agreement with Strathmore University that will see the students from the University and hotel staff benefit through mutual technical support.
The agreement will establish a framework of cooperation and exchange of technical assistance in formulation, implementation and support in research and training.
InterContinental Nairobi General Manager Dieter Franke says the hotel is committed to partnering with Strathmore University to see its staff receive excellent training.
“Our aim is to develop dedicated professionals with university qualifications that are internationally recognized and highly regarded. Among the roles we will play in this partnership is to create a Management/Student and Lecture internship program, through which we will offer placements for the best students.
The agreement will see InterContinental Nairobi staff pursue Bachelor of Tourism Management and Bachelor of Hospitality courses offered at the University and in return Strathmore students and lecturers will receive internships and training opportunities from the hotel.
Strathmore University’s Dean School of Management and Commerce Dr. David Wangombe said the partnership will ensure Strathmore students get the best internship opportunities.
Dr. Wangombe also noted that it is important to prepare their students not only for academic excellence but also help nurture innovation, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving as this will give their students an edge that is critical to success.
Both InterContinental Nairobi staff and Strathmore University students will go through an internal interview process which will determine their eligibility to join the university or the Hotel.
The partnership agreement will last for five years with a possibility of an extension for another five years after a substantive review.
