Inception Art and Design expo at UoN
Join us at #inception2013 this Friday from 5.30pm!
Venue: ADD, School of Architecture and Design, University of Nairobi
Last year (2012), the School of the Arts and Design, University of Nairobi, launched an annual design exhibition showcasing design students’ work done during their academic year. The exhibition, aptly dabbed ‘Inception’ by the participating students, reflected the renewed impetus for student-led activities at the School and the collaboration amongst the specializations. ‘Inception’ also echoed the vigor the School has always had to work more closely with the design industry and its stakeholders.
The exhibition brought together students from the 5 disciplines at the School presenting the best works of design as well as performances in music and dance and a fashion show displaying a joint project of the 3rd year Graphics and Fashion specializations.
The event was a success, with the School managing to gain sponsorship from over 20 different companies ranging from design firms, financial institutions, media and production houses. Over 300 guests were in attendance. The School also managed to obtain internship opportunities for students, and foster closer working relationships with the industry. The students were motivated and the standard of their course work has greatly improved.
This year, the School would like to involve a wider spectrum of firms in the organization of ‘Inception 2013’, both to improve the quality of its production as well as to market the School’s activities in order to pique the public’s interest in the arts and design.
Because of the interest the industry has shown in the students’ progress, the School has involved the industry at a closer level by inaugurating a series of lectures by experts from different design specializations, in the run-up to this year’s event.
Several firms, design professionals, the School’s alumni as well as the media are invited not only to view the students’ work but also judge and award prizes for best students’ work at this exhibition.
This year’s event is slated for Friday, 31st May 2013. ‘Sustainable Lifestyles’ is the theme for this year’s event, a topic which the School has deemed an important issue that everyone should consider with a view towards the country’s economic development. Students will be displaying projects they have worked on based on this area of sustainability.
Participation in this event will have a positive impact on the Schools’ endeavor to train competent design graduates.
