We know him as Ted Mosby, the hopeless romantic lead character in the acclaimed TV series How I Met Your Mother. But the Sitcom star, real name Josh Radnor, is also a budding writer/director and has just released his second feature film titled Liberal Arts.
In the film, Radnor acts as Jesee, a 35 year old college admissions officer who falls for 19 year old liberal arts sophomore student Zibby (Elizabeth Olsen). Age difference aside, the film brings out the issue of Uni admin/faculty and student relationship in a story line
Radnor shot the movie in his alma mater, Kenyon College, an idyllic campus, where he is most happy and alive, until Zibby comes along.
A review by TIME Magazine applauses the cast, especially Olsen.
“The characters are not as detestable as that sounds, mainly because Radnor and Olsen work well together. They don’t have wildly hot chemistry, but since they’re both mostly attracted to the idea of each other, it makes sense. She bemoans the immaturity of the dudes on campus,” says Mary Pols, Time.
Radnor’s writing is sharp and crisp, maybe as a result of working with HIMYM’s writers.
“I just can’t figure out whether it’s because you’re advanced,” Jesse says to Zibby in one scene. “Or because I’m stunted.”
