Heartbreaking: TV personality Anjlee Ghadvi loses long battle with cancer

K24 senior news anchor and Cancer ambassador Anjlee Ghadvi has succumbed after a battle with cancer.

Ghadvi died on Friday (10.01.2020) while undergoing treatment at the Agha Khan University Hospital.

K24 news editor Peter Opondo on his Twitter page said, “Oh my friend @AnjleeGadhvi You fought that cancer beast with all your might. You did it for your kids, husband. Never lost hope. You always smiled through the pain & insisted on coming to work even at your weakest points. We believed you were winning…until now! RIP my friend”.

In August last year, Ghadvi was admitted to a hospital in India. The journalist shared an update on the kind of treatment she underwent in India on her Twitter account. She said being strapped in a single position with her arms stretched above her head had made her body sore.

The anchor further added that that had led to an inflamed throat and swallowing food was a struggle. She urged her followers to appreciate good health saying she would cringe in agony and suffocation when the air got stuck in her chest.

Anjlee was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2013 but went public about it in 2015.

After various treatments options had drained funds raised by family and friends forcing her to launch a medical appeal on a popular local radio programme. With help from friends and well-wishers, she was able to raise Ksh6 million to seek treatment.

Late 2016, the bubbly anchor announced that she was cancer-free after numerous treatment sessions. She had undergone a successful liver transplant.

Anjlee was an avid cancer warrior who spoke cancer every chance she got, from doing cancer-related features to working with companies like Estee Lauder to spread awareness on cancer on social media.

She is survived by a husband and two children.
