Harambee Stars won their game against neighbors Tanzania and Kenyans can’t keep calm

Kenya’s Harambee Stars did well against their opponents and neighbors Tanzania, in their second match at the AFCON tournament in Eygpt.

Migne’s team did not disappoint in their second match against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars. And with the pre-match anxiety and online banter reaching fever pitch it seemed that Kenya’s Stars were urged to live up to the hype and support they received from some of Kenya’s biggest names. Playing with the same formation as their tournament opener in 4-2-3-1, the team were on the ball, making sure not to give up and follow through with their strategy.

Olunga carried the team scoring twice, as Omolo also netted one goal against the Magufuli’s Taifa Stars. According to a report by Capital Sports, Kenya twice came from behind to draw 2-2 before Olunga scored the winner with a nasty low shot off a swiftly executed counter attack. Stars will now need to pick at least a point against Senegal in the final match of the group on Monday to have some concrete hope of remaining in Egypt for the round of 16. But before moving into the final Group C match-up, Kenyans are overjoyed over the spectacular performance in the thrilling AFCON match at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo yesterday (28.06.2019).

Here are some of the best reactions to the Harambee Stars win:

Eric Omondi is hailed for singlehandedly encouraging many to support the Kenyan stars. Through various skits, Omondi garnered the support of Kenyans to rally behind the national team. Bringing attention to the game days before it happened, Omondi used comedy and current events to spur patriotism among otherwise unconcerned youth. He went on to caption his first post, “Ndugu zangu watanzania ninawapenda Sanaa il Hali Alhamisi/Thursday hii mtatuwia radhi manake tunakuja kuwachapa Kichapo Cha Mwaka”.

In response to Diamond Platnumz viral ‘Kanyaga’ track ( a remix in support of Taifa Stars), Omondi also put forth a hilarious parody that had many singing along, urging Harambee stars to do their very best for the nation. In his cleverly crafted lyrics, Omondi sings, “Kanyaga sana, leo hakuna urafiki…wakule machobo kama mia, makanza hawa watalia, slay queen wachanganye nani…mabao za ingia.”

With hilarious banter, he featured Vera Sidika, Hamissa Mobetto and even ‘kidnapped’ Diamond Platnumz girl Tanasha Donna threatening him and the Taifa Stars to lose the game. And it worked as the Kenyan side won 3-2. Now that the dust has settled, and Harambee Stars has proved itself, Omondi has memed Tanzania’s President Magufuli all to give Harambee Stars the utmost support.

Kenyan Footballer, Arnold Origi also penned a letter to the Harambee stars after their lackluster performer in their AFCON tournament opener against Algeria. He wrote, “Be courageous. You’ve got everything you need in and within you, to do and achieve something that has never been seen or experienced in Kenyan football. U have shown that before. The only way u will be able to do that is by not letting any negativity both from within and outside paralyze you. BE BRAVE.” And now that the Kenyan side was victorious, he applauded the performance of Ogada Olunga and Johana Eric in their game against Tanzania.

Guys the only thing that can limit You is You. Your relentlessness and tenacity. There might be negative voices in you, for sure there are negative voices from outside, as you guys might have registered. The ones in you might be shouting what if, You are not good enough? The ones from outside are for sure shouting that you are not good enough. But hey don’t let those voices, both from inside and from outside, the nay sayers, keep you planted in the plantation of fear and make u come to the end of this wonderful journey wondering what could have been. Not that you shouldn’t be afraid, fear is normal. It keeps u on ur toes. But DO NOT let it stop you. Be courageous. You’ve got everything you need in and within you, to do and achieve something that has never been seen or experienced in kenyan football. U’ve shown that before. The only way u will be able to do that, is by not letting any negativity both from within and outside paralyze you. BE BRAVE. Nobody knows better than you, what was broken and why it was broken. The hurt and disappointment of losing, the pain in having to do ur restitution training after the game, with 0 points instead of 3 or at least 1 point. But hey, don’t feel sorry for ur self. Don’t dwell on the regrets. Fix what’s broken in the next two days, and on Thursday have a go at it again. Together with pride. Together with passion. Til the end. That’s how winning is done. There is a percentage of kenyan football lovers out here that, genuinely supports you no matter what and wishes you nothing but the best. BE BRAVE FOR US. DO IT FOR US. But if that may be difficult to motivate urselves on, then always remember that, there is a group of kenyans somewhere, who You know very well where they are or might be in the country, coz they bear ur surnames and u are their heroes. BE BRAVE FOR THEM. DO IT FOR THEM. #comeoneyoustars. #tunaweza👊🏿👊🏿 #afcon2019

Business owner Vera Sidika also cheered on the team and shared the game’s scored championing the team for their performance. She captioned the post, “Tanzania 🇹🇿 …mtaambia nini watu 😂🙆‍♀️🤣 Comment with 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪 “

Online comedian Henry Desagu also cheered on as Kenya’s stars won. The funnyman went on to equate the game to a relationship between a young man and a coy young woman. Celebrating the win, Desagu made it clear that Tanzania could no longer praise their skills, as they had just been taught a lesson by Kenya’s Harambee Stars.
