Etana came to Nairobi for the Kenyan leg of the ‘Reggae Forever’ world tour. Her performance which took place this weekend (11.05.2019) at Uhuru Gardens was packed as revelers came out in the cold to watch the beautiful Jamaican artist serenade them with her greatest hits.
Etana, who left her nursing degree to pursue a career in music in 2000, offered her best hits including ‘Weakness In Me’, ‘People Talk’ ‘Love Song’ ‘Blessings’ and ‘I Am Not Afraid’.
Backed by the Soul Rebel Band, Etana also took concert attendees on a rollercoaster of emotions as she covered some Reggae greats. It being the anniversary of Bob Marley’s death, she paid homage to the icon, with her live rendition of his track ‘Redemption Song.’ The emotional performance sent shockwaves throughout the dome, as Etana belted out the tune, that so many hold dear. Strong, passionate and emotive, her live performance of the crowd favorite ‘Weakness In Me’ is also a special moment to remember for many.
Wyre Da Love Child also performed, reminding many why he is such a great act. One half of the legendary group Necessary Noize, Wyre treated concert-goers to some of his best hits including ‘Bless My Room’ ‘Kingston Girl’ as well as 2018 release, ‘Mimi na We.’ Performing without backtracking, Wyre was backed by the talented Gravitti Band which was the first act of the night.
Etana’s last trip to Nairobi was in 2017 when she shared the stage with the icon Luciano and the ‘Brown Skin’ crooner Richie Spice. Etana got her big break singing background vocals for Richie Spice, going on to tour North America and Europe with him, as earlier reported by The Sauce.
