The Government is set to develop a ranking system to help asses excellence grades in universities. Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi revealed the Government, through the Commission for University Education (CUE), will determine unique areas of competencies universities have and this will stimulate healthy competition among local universities.
Prof. Kaimenyi also said CUE will harmonise appointments of lecturers into all public Universities to ensure parity in qualifications into all academic and management positions.
“The Commission is in the process of developing criteria to be used by both public and private universities in recruiting and promoting staff,” Prof. Kaimenyi said at the lighting ceremony of Bachelor of Science in nursing graduates at Regina Paris University College in Nairobi.
Prof. Kaimenyi has assured Kenyans that the Government was committed in integrating Information Communication Technology (ICT) in education.
He said ICT in education was the most viable technique of imparting the modern curriculum.
The CS said world was automating all tasks and it was only fair that the Government empowers children to use ICT for quality education and also to prepare them for an ICT dominated processes.
He added the Government was keen on establishing Universities Fund whose object will be to provide funds for financing universities.
