Gov. Mike Sonko explains how he bounced back after academic failure

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko visited Buru Buru Girls High School over the weekend, 9th June 2018.

The flashy public servant shared his success story and attributed his achievements to his father’s influence over the years. According to Capital News,  he expressed his gratitude by saying “I really salute my late father Mzee Kivanguli. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He taught me a lot.”

1A little effort goes a long way

The governor had lots to say about the value of hard work.“You must strive to achieve anything. Life is not easy…never give up. You should also always put God ahead of everything,” Sonko told students at the school.

2. Family fortunes should not be a fall back plan

Making his first million at a young age, Sonko has had a wealth of business experience. He cautioned students of Buru Buru Girls High School against depending on the family fortunes to succeed. “Don’t think of your family background, or what you ate last evening. Just focus on your life path. You are the future of this great country of ours,” he said.

3. Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today

The city governor insisted that education is the pillar of everything in life and no matter what grade anyone manages, it is not the end of life. “I scored C+ in KCSE with an E in Maths. But I still became Makadara MP and I started my charity, assisting people, some of who even got better grades than I did in high school,” Sonko said.
