Ghanian Shatta Wale Takes to Twitter as Pres. Kenyatta pledges $1M COVID-19 Relief

Rapper Shatta Wale convinced the Ghanian government can do more for its artists, during the Coronavirus pandemic.

After seeing Uhuru Kenyatta’s request to the Sports, Heritage and Culture Ministry to make available close to $1million for artist during this pandemic, Ghanaian Reggae – Dancehall artist, Shatta Wale has expressed disappointment with the Ghanaian music industry.

According to Shatta, the music industry in Ghana is nothing but a “big disgrace to the world.”

Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, in his address to Kenyans on March 6th, 2020, ordered for the release of some 100M Kenyan shillings or its equivalent of $938,850.50 to Kenyan artists in the wake of COVID-19.

“I also direct the Ministry of Sports to avail additional support of Ksh100M from the sports fund to our artists so they can continue to entertain their fellow brothers and sisters through TV, Radio, and the Internet,” he stated.

Reacting to this, Shatta Wale who has continually criticized the Ghanaian music industry took to the social media platform Twitter to share his displeasure according to Mdundo.

Shatta Wale is known to be one of the more outspoken acts from Ghana. The ‘Wonder Boy’ crooner has not shied away from sharing his thoughts on the Ghanian music industry which has continued to stand in the shadow of its neighbor Nigeria.

It remains to be seen which other African leaders will pledge to help players in the creative sector, providing COVID-19 relief at this time. Nontheless, artists continue to share their music, even despite the difficult times.
