‘Get Lifted’ crooner John Legend makes history with EGOT win

John Legend has just solidified his legendary status.

John Roger Stephens, known professionally as John Legend, is an American singer, songwriter and actor. Legend who is popular for songs such as All of me, Tonight, Ordinary people and Green light made history twice over the weekend.At 39, Legend is one of the youngest EGOT winners and also became the first African-American man to garner that honour.

This is after the singer-actor won an Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles, USA alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for producing the best variety special winner, “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.”

“EGOT” stands for the big four awards in the entertainment industry: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The EGOT status is the holy grail of the entertainment industry and only 12 people before that night had ever won all four awards in competitive categories.

The internationally acclaimed artist has won10 Grammys, with his first win being in 2006. In 2015 his song “Glory” featured in the film “Selma” won an Oscar, and he received a Tony in 2017 for his role as a co-producer for the broadway production of Jitney.

The father of two who got his first GQ Magazine cover this September also recently received the Most Stylish man award at the 2018 GQ Men of the Year awards which was presented to him by his model and TV star wife Chissy Teigan.
