Football, Kenyatta University and How to make love top the lists of Kenya’s Google search history

Google has released its list of the most searched items in the country for the last 15 years as the search engine marked 15 years since its inception.

Football related topics took the top most spots. English premier League carried the day (read the years!). Following EPL are betting companies Sportpesa and Betin, though the latter has since ceased operations.

The top searched local people notably featured politicians including the President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto. Controversial political figures like Miguna Miguna, Mike Sonko and Babu Owino also featured on the list. Late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore who succumbed to cancer in 2019 was also one of the most searched personalities over the last couple of years.

E-commerce is becoming popular with every passing day and that is why Jumia Kenya and Jiji Kenya are among these top searches. Job searching platform Brighter Monday came in at number five.

Gospel tracks like Amazing Grace, Hallelujah and What a friend we have in Jesus. Kwangwaru by Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, Let her go cover by Jamaica’s Chris Martin and Hello by Adele also made the list.
