With the nation dealing with various crises in 2020, many Kenyans have taken to social media to share their disappointment with the country’s leaders. With Coronavirus taking a toll on the economic stability of the state, and major floods poised to affect food security, it seems Twitter might have some options for alternative leadership come 2022.
Fena Gitu, a famed musician took to social media on Tuesday (19.05.2020) sharing her opinions on the state of leadership. She quipped that she was yet to see any leader worthy of her vote, in the presidential candidate race.
And unsurprisingly, she was not the only disgruntled citizen to point out the poor performance of the ruling leaders. Apart from mismanagement of funds, and poor and half-way executed development strategies, the current crisis has only gone to expose the incapability of the current leadership in place.
And K.O.T hardly shied away from pointing this out. One noted, “The country is in shortage of political leadership. No decent opposition candidate has emerged to provide leadership to this country. The future of this country is in trouble because we’ll be seeing the same faces in 2022.” Another highlighted the poor voting strategies lead to lackluster leadership. One tweeted, “Our system/Culture can’t accommodate a decent Presidential candidate!! We all in for Gang Gang Kind/wannabe candidate.”
Speaking about voting history, one Twitter user noted “And that’s why kenyan feel lost we are surrounded by greedy animals and they are very kin make sure one of then takes the leadership, but God will see us through but we must be very careful as we evaluate leaders.”
One tweep went on to suggest that the ‘Brikicho’ crooner should run for president.
Sadly it seems, that Gitu though flattered by her fans response she was quick to point out that leadership is not for her. When a fan suggested she should run for president, she quickly responded ‘maybe run away.”
Fena is among a growing number of public figures who have not shied away from tackling the topic of politics. A well-respected act in East Africa, Fena’s discourse is just an indication of the growing concern among Kenyans on the state of national leadership.
