Iconic rapper Tupac Shakur is played by 28-year-old Carlifornia native Demetrius Shipp Jr. In a depiction of the life of arguably the most influential rappers of all time, “All Eyez On Me” chronicles the life of Tupac from birth to his untimely death at age 25.
The newly released biopic made its debut on the box office on June 16th 2017, raking in $27 Million and landing the third spot on the American box office according to Trace. The biopic produced by L.T. Hutton and Benny Boom, was told from the perspective of Tupac himself. The movie hopes to enlighten the audience on the life of Tupac, and his influences including his mother who was an integral part of the Black Panther movement.
For all Tupac fans including entertainment personalities like Jada Pinket Smith who was a close friend to Tupac, there have been mixed reviews on the movie. A childhood friend to the Hip Hop icon, Jada was reportedly unimpressed by the movie saying, “Forgive me … my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez on Me to stand as truth. Pac never read me that poem. I didn’t know that poem existed until it was printed in his book” according to Trace. It seems that other close friends of the poet and actor including Snoop Dogg reminisce on “Better Days” and hope the movie will keep the memory of Tupac alive.
