Education Ministry To Decide On Closing Schools For Repeat Election

The Ministry of Education is set to hold a stakeholders meeting today, Monday 19th September, where a major decision on whether to close schools during the week of the repeat presidential polls, is expected to be made.

The meeting will bring together officials from the Kenya National Examinations Council, Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development and Head Teachers of secondary and primary schools. Among some of the options to be considered include closing all the schools during the October 17 poll or only close day schools and allow boarding institutions to continue operating.

Schools re-opened for the third term on August 28 and will close by October 29 in order to allow for the start of the National examinations.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) will begin on October 23 with the oral tests while the written exam will take place between November 6 and 29 this year.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) candidates will sit their exams on November 1 and 2.

The rehearsals will be done on October 31.
