Rapper and pop artist Doja Cat is all the rave now, and rightfully so.
With insurmountable music milestones in her relatively new career, she is headed for the skies, if her sheer creativity and talent are anything to go by. Speaking of, her new music video for Woman cements that assertion. Off of Planet Her, her 3rd studio album, Woman is an Afrobeats-inclining sound co-written by rapper Jidenna and co-produced by Malawian producer Static.
It is one of the most standout songs and the 4th single off the album. Perhaps well aware of those facts, Doja went all out in the video. An ode to womanhood and divine femininity, it stars singer Teyana Taylor as the Queen of a mythical kingdom which is about to be taken over by intruding men. Doja informs Taylor who in turn conjures Doja with a finger wave. Doja sensually disturbs the men, so their mission is aborted.
Woman is immensely reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s Remember the Time video, as it is of Nicki Minaj’s Ganja Burn and Beyonce’s Déjà Vu videos.
Planet Her has been nominated for Album of the Year at the 2022 Grammys.
