Daystar’s Ruth floors UoN’s Doreen at TPF5

It was a Daystar vs UoN face-off at the just concluded Tusker Project Fame finals that saw Ruth Matete walk away with a Sh5 million prize money and a 10 million recording contract.

The 26 year old Daystar University student beat 15 other participants including Doreen Muchiri, a University of Nairobi student, who surprisingly came second.

Ruth jumped with joy and laid flat on the stage after she was announced the winner. She is an only child of Abel Amunga, an actor in the local drama series Mali.

After eight weeks in the music reality show, Ruth won the contest by beating contestants from six other East African countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi.

During her stay at the academy she was on probation only once and this was because her teachers wanted her to experience the probation stage. But Ruth’s fans overwhelmingly voted to keep her in the race.

Doreen, on the other hand, had been on probation several times only surviving through a public vote. It has been reported in other media that Doreen had a group of UoN students aggressively supporting her, and encouraging other students to vote for her. This is how Doreen beat other contestants like Steve and Rwanda’s Jackson (who the audience and some judges thought should have taken first-runners up).

In her last performance on Sunday, Ruth performed Coldplay’s song ‘Clock’. Later, Ruth confessed she had not heard of the rock band before her performance.

“I want to thank God, and all my fans who voted! I will not disappoint you,” said an emotional Ruth, after she was declared winner by EABL marketing director Deborah Mallowah.

During a previous interview Ruth said that if she won she would first tithe, then buy a car then change her whole wardrobe. Wow!! 5million is a lot of money. What would you do with it?
