Nigerian superstar Davido believes charity begins at home.
The hitmaker during the weekend announced his charity plans after hosting an impromptu online appeal ahead of his 29th birthday.
According to the statement Davido posted on his social media pages, he will donate more than NGN 250, 000,000 ( Kshs 67 million) to orphanages across Nigeria.
As earlier reported by The Sauce, he launched his fundraiser Wednesday, posting his bank details online and asking celebrity friends and followers to send money, saying his aim was to raise 100 million naira (Kshs 27 million) to clear his Rolls-Royce from a port.
“If u know I’ve given you a hit song… send me money,” the singer wrote on Twitter earlier this week.
He said he would also make a personal donation of Kshs 13 million, or 50 million naira, and named a disbursement committee that will identify orphanages that need funding, and distribute the funds accordingly.
The musician, whose real name is David Adeleke, who turned 29 on Sunday, November 21 said his aim was now “to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need.”
Davido also continued to make headlines this past week after he released the music video for his new single ‘Champion Sound,’ featuring South African rapper Focalistic.
Known for his songs ‘Dami Duro’, ‘Fia’, ‘If’ ‘Assuarance’ and ‘Fall,’ Davido has been one of Africa’s most prominent artists over the last decade and is the African artist with the highest number of followers on Instagram.
