First lady

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has urged leaders in the country to initiate projects that will create jobs and help young girls to avoid risky lifestyles in search of income.

The First Lady said leaders have a responsibility to facilitate the youth to be productive members of the society and securing their future.

“Poverty levels need to be alleviated so that we can give hope to the youth,” she added.

The First lady spoke at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos town where she delivered the 32nd ‘Beyond Zero’ mobile clinic to Machakos County. The mobile clinic was received by Governor Alfred Mutua on behalf of the residents of the county.

The First Lady assured of her commitment to working closely with the county leadership on innovative solutions that would improve the lives of mothers and children.

“The facilities offered by the Machakos Level 5 Hospital are state of the art and the equipment rivals that found anywhere in the world to support diagnosis and treatment,” the First Lady said.

She described Machakos as the ‘most progressive County’ in Kenya going by the numerous innovative developments its leaders have initiated.

The First Lady lauded the County Government of Machakos for displaying the traits of a transformative leadership that ‘is poised to make history as the best and most visionary administration currently serving the counties’.

The recent initiative by the county to embark on a multi-billion shilling water provision project to households is a landmark achievement that will greatly improve hygiene and reduce disease in every family, the First Lady said.

She said provision of water for all was in line with the United Nations World Humanitarian Day marked on August 19, whose theme was ‘Inspiring the World’s Humanity’.
