Popular TV personality Larry Madowo left fans in shock after sharing a video of himself eating roasted mice in Malawi.
Larry who is in Malawi to cover the Malawian general elections for BBC Africa is handed the mice on a skewer by a trader selling the delicacy by the roadside. The delicacy dubbed ‘underground sausage’ is native to the people of Chewa in Central Malawi which is eaten whole as is.
He then proceeded to examine the mice that are neatly stacked on the skewer. The BBC Africa Business Editor then cuts a chunk of the mice meat, smells it before putting it on his mouth. “Can I also eat the head?” asks Larry. His face is expressionless as he munches the mice. He later says that the meat tastes ‘just like chicken’.
“I ate a mouse for the first time and it was, well, amazing! Mice (not rats!) are a delicacy in parts of Malawi. Tastes just like chicken,” posted Larry on social media.

I ate a mouse 🐁 for the first time and it was, well, amazing! Mice (not rats!) are a delicacy among the Chewa of central Malawi. I will eat anything and I had to try these. They’re eaten whole with the skin and everything. Tastes just like chicken 😉 #wanderlust #goeverywhere #eateverything
Kenyans on Twitter reacted to Larry’s stunt with hilarious comments on why he should not have eaten the delicacy in the first place, a one user asked him not to come back to Kenya, and another user suggested that he should be vaccinated upon his return to the country while another said that his fart would scare people away.
On Instagram fellow celebs had a few things to say. Radio DJ and presenter GMoney said it’s disgusting while another radio personality Shaq the Youngin said that he would love to eat some. Legendary artist Juacali questioned Larry’s review of the mice tasting like chicken and News anchor Linda Oguttu said that he was now disowned.
