Celeb couples who have found, rekindled, and lost love during the Coronavirus pandemic

When in it comes to love, you win some, you lose some.

2020 has especially been a hard year for lovers. Some were locked down in different parts of the country or the world, for some the stay at home orders tore them apart while some found love amid the pandemic.

Over the last couple of weeks, news of singer and fashion mogul Rihanna dating rapper A$AP Rocky has been lighting up the internet. Here in Kenya, fans are elated over singer Pascal Tokodi and media personality Grace Ekirapa’s marriage reveal.

Here are some celebrity couples who have found, lost, and rekindle their love amid the pandemic.

Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich

In the case of Dancing with the Stars dancer Julianne Hough and hubby Brooks Laich, the pandemic was not kind to them as it was the downfall of their three-year marriage. They had also been social distancing separately during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Laich in Idaho and Hough at home in Los Angeles. Hough filed for divorce in November 2020, five months after they announced their separation.

Neyo and Crystal Renay Smith

For Grammy award-winning RnB singer Neyo and wife Crystal Renay Smith, the pandemic was a blessing in disguise as they were able to rekindle their marriage. As reported by The Sauce, the 40-year-old singer announced in February he was planning to divorce his wife Crystal Renay the mother of his kids Shaffer Jr., four, and two-year-old Roman but says lockdown measures imposed due to the global health crisis has allowed them time to work on their differences.

Demi Lovato and Max Enrich

Singer Demi Lovato’s quarantine love died with the end of the lockdown in the US. As reported by The Sauce, the Echame la Culpa hitmaker found love in Young and the Restless actor Max Enrich at the beginning of the pandemic in March. Sources revealed that they had decided to quarantine together at Demi’s house amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In July, the quarantine lovebirds announced their engagement as Demi flaunted an emerald cut ring reported to have cost $300,00. By September 2020, the couple hit the headlines with the news of their nasty break up.

Tifanny Haddish and Common

Actress Tifanny Haddish and rapper Common found love amid the pandemic. While they had already developed a friendship before the lockdown while on the set of the movie The Kitchen in 2019, Haddish’s partnership with dating site Bumble in April 2020 had the two go on a virtual date as reported by Billboard. Soon after the lovebirds grew closer and decided to quarantine together as they were already spending a lot of time together. In July 2020, the Girl’s trip actress announced that they were officially dating.

Taraji P. Henson and Kelvin Hayden

Empire actress Taraji P. Henson popularly known as Cookie Lyon had to postpone her dreams of having a small wedding as reported by The Sauce. Now seven months after announcing that her wedding to former NFL star Kelvin Hayden had been pushed back amid the COVID-19 crisis, Henson revealed during an October 19th, 2020 interview on The Breakfast Club that she and her fiancé had split. The duo got engaged in May 2018.

Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson

After a tumultuous 2019, reality TV star Khloe Kardashian and NBA star Tristan Thompson are said to have rekindled their romance during the pandemic. According to a report by The Sauce, Khloe is said to have been living with the basketball player amidst the coronavirus pandemic so he could spend time with his daughter True. It has also been claimed the couple is house-hunting together, with Tristan determined to “prove he has changed” in the months after their split last year after he cheated on his baby mama with Jordyn Woods, a close friend of the Kardashian family.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock

TV star and Grammy award winner Kelly Clarkson’s seven-year marriage hubby Brandon Blackstock could not withstand the test of the pandemic. According to The Sauce, the couple who have two children together, their marriage problems intensified during the quarantine. Kelly and Brandon had been quarantining together in Montana with their kids and his two children from a previous relationship, and Kelly admitted it was an “emotional rollercoaster”.
