‘Burn down university’ KU’s election official tells gender rep aspirant

KU

There was drama at KU’s electoral commission’s offices, when Andaje Mwisuhka, the Electoral chairman, lost his cool and told an aspirant to go ahead and burn the university.

The aspirant, Miss Edith Muthoni, was vying for the gender and social welfare position for the elections held yesterday; but to her and supporters’ shock, her name was missing on the ballot paper. When she sought audience with the electoral chairman, Mr. Andaje lost his cool and told her to go ahead and incite students to strike, but stop disturbing him and his team.

“When I went to his office with my agents, he seemed unreasonably angry and told me to go ahead and burn the university if I feel offended,” said Muthoni to this writer on the sidelines of the boardroom where the official results are being announced.

Mr. Mwisuhka declined to comment on the incident.

But there was reason to smile for Muthoni when Mr. Edwin Gimonde, the university’s Dean of students gave her audience and promised a by-election on the gender post.

“The Dean was very helpful… he and other commissioners agreed there was a mistake and promised a by-election soon— though subject to confirmation from all relevant authorities,” said Muthoni, a third year student of English and Literature.

Though the results are yet to be officially released by the EC, provisional results put Minky Wanja, a model, on the lead as the Gender secretary-elect for academic year 2013/2014.

For other executive positions: Lone Felix is the President, James Mbiu VP, Ephraim Maina Sec Gen, Mar Kotondeh Academic Sec and peter Obwogi— who KU ladies voted overwhelmingly for being handsome and shy— is the new finance secretary. All of them are elect since they are yet to be sworn in.
