Burial arrangements for former Kenyan CNN reporter Soni Methu who passed on last week have been made.
Methu died on Thursday (11.04.19) while on the way to the hospital in Diani, Kwale County. Soni’s body will be airlifted on Sunday (21.04.19) for burial at her parents’ home in Eldoret on Tuesday (23.04.19), Nairobi News reported.
There will be vigils in Diani and Nairobi organized by family and friends before the burial to celebrate Methu’s life.
The international journalist died after a sudden illness and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for this week to determine the cause of death.
Methu was taken ill at 6 p.m when she cried in pain while clutching her stomach and died 30 minutes later on the way to the hospital.
Her former employer CNN sent out condolences to her family saying that Methu was very proud to be the first Kenyan host of “Inside Africa,” and was passionate about presenting her homeland to the world. Those at CNN who knew and worked with her say she had great energy, an ability to light up the room and was incredibly kind to those she worked with as well as people she met in her travels.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague Soni Methu. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, from all at CNN,” CNN said in a statement.
Soni Methu hosted “Inside Africa,” CNN International’s longest-running feature program, from 2014 until 2015 when the show moved to a new format without a presenter.
She previously worked as an East Africa correspondent at South African news channel eNCA for two years and at China Global Television Network (CGTN).
