The British boyfriend of a University of Nairobi student who died under mysterious circumstance has denied murdering his girlfriend last November.
He appeared before judge Roselyn Korir who remanded him at industrial areas prison until February 19 when the case will be mentioned to ascertain whether he is fit to stand trial. The judge directed that he undergoes medical assessment at Mathare Mental Hospital.
41-year-old Carl Singleton was arrested in December 2014 after his girlfriend, a 22-year-old BComm Lower Kabete Campus student was found dead in their flat in Gachie. The two met on Facebook and dated online before Singleton came to visit Peris in Kenya.
Peris Ashley Agumbi died of diabetic hypertension and respiratory failure. Singleton is said to have flushed her diabetes medication and locked Ashley in their two bedroom house flat in Gachie, Kiambu.
Singleton was charged with murder seven days after he was arrested. Ashley had filed an abuse complaint to the Police, accusing Singleton of beating her.
