Rapper Boutross Munene is not here for people belittling Kenyan music, and much less his music.
Twitter user @polo_kimani posted a tweet that sparked a conversation around Boutross and Kenyan rappers: “You’ll listen to what they call Kenyan HipHop today and be very disappointed. What does Boutross rap? I envy the days we had the likes of Juliani and Proff. Jay, their music made sense. There was a message in the music which made it more interesting,” Read the tweet.
Boutross caught wind of the provocation and retaliated with, “I’m sure you have not listened to my albums because to come up with such mediocre comments means you know nothing about my shrap sh*t. Live in the present my G.”
Many Twitter users backed Boutross’ clapback, many deeming one of the best of the new school rappers. Gabiro Mtu Necesarry wrote: “A musician is his own best fan. If you love what you do and it pays you, don’t be attention to the naysayers. The Mawingu album has done better than your past albums and you even scored a collaboration with Konshens. For me that’s bigger than anyone can try to bring down.”
The rapper has been riding high on the success of his Angela smash. The song’s video has garnered over 3.2 million views on YouTube, just two months after its release.
The self-proclaimed ‘Shrap God’ embarked on his BouTour campaign across different Kenyan cities a few months ago, in support of his EP, all whilst recording his upcoming project.
