Sol Generation’s soulful crooner Bensol released ‘Nairobi’ last week that immediately went viral.
The track was a cautionary tale on the small and often complicated dating pool in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. The track garnered more than 500K views on YouTube, with thousands of comments praising the songwriting for capturing the upsetting experiences of those looking for love in Nairobi.
In an interview with The Lounge host Chao Tolle, Bensol opened up about what led him to write the highly relatable track. He noted that “There was a time my borther or friend was being played…I wrote the song to remind him we are in Nairobi.”
The track also went viral on Twitter after fans noted that rapper Mejja’s part in the release was not up to par. According to a report, Mejja expressed himself the best way he wanted to in the song. Speaking during an interview with the Trend, Bensoul noted that Mejja has nothing to prove as his track record speaks for itself.
Bensol has had a string of mega-hits including ‘Forget You’, ‘Peddi’ and ‘Favorite Song’.
