Beauty Buff: 3 products to keep your skin moisturized in cold dry weather

The ‘Kenyan winter’ as we know it is finally here, and as we bundle up to keep warm; you might notice great changes with your skin. This might be due to the cold wind, low air temperatures all mixed in with the pollution in the city.

However, there are a few tricks and tips to keep your skin moisturized and glowing even despite the cold weather. Whether you might want to consider switching thing up in your skincare routine, one thing is for certain; keeping your skin moisturized is a must.

Here are 3 cheap and organic products that are guaranteed to keep your skin moisturized and glowing all through the cold season.

1.Shea Butter oil

This oil is hugely popular in Africa. Long before the rest of the world caught on to its health benefits, Africans have been using Shea Butter to keep their skin smooth, moisturized and glowing. Known for its ability to quickly sink into the skin, its fast absorption rates allow your skin to glow from within, due to its high moisture content.

According to research by Wellness Mama, “the skin superfood that comes from the seeds of the fruit of the Shea (Karite) tree,  is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It offers UV protection (it is SPF ~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production.” It is also great for clearing up the appearance of stretch marks.

2.Coconut oil

The coconut tree has been a great provider of shade, food and much more for coastal communities since the dawn of time. And throughout all seasons, coconut oil has a myriad of benefits with its uses ranging from culinary uses and skincare.

Light and easily absorbed, the sweet-smelling coconut oil is also praised for its ability to improve skin elasticity, increasing collagen production. With a multitude of uses including helping to lighten age spots and providing sun protection when rubbed directly on the skin; it is excellent for skin care during colder months.

3.Aloe Vera

Dry and dehydrated cells make for dry, flaky and dull skin. If you are looking to improve the look and feel of your skin; it is always best to start from the inside out. Aloe Vera is a great natural remedy to improve skin elasticity, plumping up your skin and improving the moisture content of your cells giving you clean, healthy and glowing skin.

In an interview with Elle Magazine, celebrity esthetician Renée Rouleau listed out the many benefits of applying the goopy product on the skin. Renee said, “Aloe vera gel has bioactive compounds in the plant that are rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E as well as minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. These are all thought to aid in the ‘healing’ benefits of aloe.”
