Kenya’s gospel industry is growing, and the rookies are releasing some great new music in 2020.
Bahati & Boondocks Gang – Taniua
Bahati seems eager to run away from the scandals consuming his EMB outfit at the moment. And the unlikely collaboration with Gengetone group Boondocks Gang in the track ‘Taniua’ is the perfect distraction. Though it is confusing, it is very catchy. The controversial release has many wondering if Bahati is just riding the Gengetone train for his benefit, or does he actually care for the Boondocks youth. Nonetheless, the track has garnered more than 300K views since its release on 9th February.
According to a previous report on The Sauce, Bahati and his record label signee Peter Blessing are currently embroiled in a fierce legal battle. The bone of contention being the music contract between the rising artist and the record label EMB records which are owned by the ‘Mama’ hitmaker Bahati.
David Wonder, Mr. Seed – Za Baba
Former EMB record label musicians; David Wonder and Mr. Seed have teamed up to release a new hit dubbed ‘Za Baba’. A song about the blessings of the Almighty God, ‘Za Baba’ is an encouragement message for those undergoing challenges that God sees and will come through for you at your hour of need.
According to Mdundo, this is the first song the two have worked on together after ditching EMB record label owned by Bahati. EMB has been on the news lately, for wrong reasons, with artistes ditching the label following disagreements with Bahati.
Manolo – Fiti
Gospel musician Manolo has also presented his first single for 2020 titled “Fiti”.
Manolo began his professional career in music in 2012 as the lead member of Recapp, an urban gospel group based in Kenya. He had formed Recapp with his friends including Ben Cyco while they were still in high school and as part of Recapp, they released a total of 2 albums – ‘Ambition’ and ‘Proud to Be a Christian’. Some of their popular songs are ‘5 Stones’ and ‘Worldwide’. The group boasts of a whooping eight Groove Awards Nominations between the years 2014 and 2018 and headlining several major concerts in Kenya and Tanzania such as Groove Awards Ceremonies and J & T in Tanzania.
After a successful 6 year career with the group, Manolo branched out on his own in 2018; to explore a new and different path as a solo artist according to Mdundo. The audio for the solo project ‘Fiti’ was produced by Majic Mike and the visuals directed by Kevin Bosco Jnr who has done great videos for a host of top music stars in East Africa including Ali Kiba.
