Controversial SONU chairman Babu Owino was arrested last evening for assaulting his rival in the last SONU elections, Mike Jacobs. Babu will be charged with assault today, Thursday, after spending the night at Kilimani Police Station.
In a video that was posted on social media sites a few months ago, Babu was seen in a confrontation with the SONU contender Jacobs but it was not clear if the later reported the incident to the police.
The University of Nairobi student elections turned chaotic after Babu was announced the winner with Jacob’s camp calling for a nullification of the polls. Subsequent violent protests forced the university senate to close the university and 137 students suspended for participating in the demonstrations.
