Babu Owino pays Sh220,000 cash bail for arrested comrades

SONU Chair Babu Owino earlier bailed out 11 university students who were arrested and charged for participating in a demonstration against HELB. The University of Nairobi students were released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 each by Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku at the Milimani courts.

The students had taken to the streets yesterday disrupting traffic along University way and Uhuru Highway over delayed HELB disbursement. The students rallied under the #OccupyAnniversaryTowers hashtag on twitter and it is alleged they harassed motorists on Uhuru Highway.

HELB, in a statement, urged for patience as the Board was discussing with institutions on how the disbursement is to be done.
