International Federation of American Football President Tommy Wikings said launching the game in Kenya is a platform for expanding the game in the region.

“The task is not for you (pioneers) to play the game, but to open way for others who are coming after you,” said Wikings.

He pledged support for the University of Nairobi team, but only after the university administration gives the team some support.

The team has 46 dedicated members.

Captian George Alwang’a, a 5th year Mechanical Engineer at the University of Nairobi said for once they feel great playing knowing that they can play outside the country.

“This launch means a lot to us,” said the captain. “It means players can now play fully motivated since they feel inspired more than ever.”

He added that being a member of the IFAF is not a mere achievement for the footballers. “It means we qualify to participate in all the IFAF tournaments because the launch is official.”

This launch came following the end of All African games at the University of Nairobi, that saw Egypt clinching the top performing country with 112 medals (66 gold medals), Ghana with 19 medals (11 gold medals) and Kenya was third placed with 68 medals (8 gold medals).
