Bongo music sensation Ali Kiba has reigned supreme in the East African music industry for almost two decades, and he is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Born Ali Saleh Kiba, the 35-year-old superstar has a legacy that surpasses most of his peers , with endless hits, awards and recognitions the world over. His extensive repertoire includes a collaboration with R Kelly and being the proprietor of his Kings Music Label, insurmountable endorsement deals. He signed with Sony Music Entertainment but left after 5 years, and embarked on a string of releases that have done well in the last year.
As he gears up for his next album, the Chekecha singer is in the country for the Afro Vasha concert slated for December in Naivasha. He hung out with The Sauce and divulged a few things.
New Music, Consistent Releases
The King of Bongo has been spawning hit after in the last few months. Songs like Utu and Bwana Mdogo have been airwave fodder, as is his collaboration with Kenyan femcee Petra. How did the collab even come about? “I have friends with Kevin Bosco (Petra’s hubby and video director) and by that extension, I am friends with Petra and a big fan of her music. I was more than delighted to work with her. As of more music with her, we have not spoken about it just yet,” he adds. “My new album is in the works and it will be my best work yet,” he promises.
Amapiano
“From my experience, some sounds come and go are not bound to stand the test of time. The sounds that come and sweep right away are likely to fade out and get forgotten. I am not incorporating any Amapiano sound, but my younger brother featured on his Amapiano song and I loved it.
He promises to put on one heck of a performance at Afro Vasha and cannot wait for Kenyans to get into it.
