Activist and author Boniface Mwangi Thursday morning accused the state and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua of attacking his employees and bombing his Machakos home that is still under construction.
Taking to Instagram and twitter with a series of tweets and caption backed by a video, Mwangi said of the alleged Wednesday night attack: “I’m a resident of Lukenya, Machakos County. About two hours ago, Governor Alfred Mutua thugs bombed my house (under construction), sank the house foundation and robbed my workers. I can’t go there now for safety reasons. I know it’s Mutua because he is a molestor and an abusive man,” he posted.
Several male voices can be heard in the video, trying to demystify what exactly transpired in the attack.
A frustrated Mwangi raised alarm saying he feels unsafe, but vowed he remains intrepid. “All l ask is an open and transparent investigation. If speaking truth will get me killed, I’m ready to die. I’m hurting, but my spirit isn’t broken. Even this will pass,“ he added.
Police have since confirmed the attack and issued a statement, assuring the public that a manhunt for the assailants is underway.
“Three unknown men in a white pickup allegedly armed with pistols accosted the site workers, robbed them off personal effects and assaulted the building still under construction with detonators causing three holes,” they issued, further imploring members of the public with any possible leads to report.
Mwangi has been constantly giving updates on the situation that has irked many Kenyans. He revealed that he has been contacted by DCI officials and the National Police Service, and confirmed investigations are indeed ongoing.
“Thank you all for the solidarity. Explosive experts just arrived from Nairobi. It shall be well. This will pass. The police are here led by Machakos Couunty Commander Issa Mohammed, County DCI boss commander Charles Mutua, Athi River OCPD Anderson Njagi. They are currently taking evidence and processing it,” he updated.
Kenyans have unanimously condemned the attack. Notably, Mwangi’s close friend and former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga asked Kenyans to contribute towards helping the UnBounded author’s rebuild the damaged house.
““I appeal to Kenyans who value humanity to help others to rebuild Boniface Mwangi’s house to shame those who sponsored the inhuman, cruel and satanic act of blowing up his house,” said Mutunga in a tweet.
